Friends of Webster Trails Board Minutes

Webster Community Center
Present: Hal Harris, Bob Guenther, Dennis Kuhn, Sharon Galbraith, Ted Ellstrom, Jeff Darling, Rick Taddio
Visitors: Ron Happ, Buzz Weetman and Warren Sauer
The August minutes were approved as presented.
Treasurer’s Report: Bob Guenther reported that there is a balance of $5410.70. Bob has established a checking as well as a savings account with M&T Bank. Bob also reported that Gail Koza is pleased with the John Ungar Nature trail and has donated $100 to FWT.
Membership Report: Dennis Kuhn reported that there are currently 137 memberships.
Communications Report: Rick Taddeo reported that the Messenger Post would like to write an article about the Hojack trail. It was suggested that reporter, Kelly O’Brian, contact Jack Kerson for detailed information.
Hal will check with Jack to see if that would be OK.
Rick reported that Rich Morrill will be the subject of an article for the newsletter. The “Smokehouse Project” will also be featured.
Rick complimented the signage for the WRNP “You Are Here” !
Hike notices will be in the newspaper.

November 15, 2009 – Gosnell Big Woods – Leader Hal Harris
Habitat Preservation: No report
Scout Projects: Hal will invite a Girl Scout, Hannah Kmiecinski, to discuss her ideas about her proposal for activities for children on the trails.
Jeff Darling will continue to work with Chris Jones to find a suitable Eagle project.
Garrett Herbst, was featured in an article in the Webster Herald for his bridge building project in Webster Park.
Trails Committee: Jeff Darling reported that 21 volunteers installed 8 foot sections of boardwalk on the red trail. They also repaired one bridge and regraded sections of the orange trail.
Jeff also reported that an average of twenty volunteers helped on the scheduled workdays. Remaining projects for this fall include the following:
Improving the Hojack Trail
- Monitoring the big field at the WRNP
- Contouring the access trail to Webster Park
- Armoring the boardwalks on the red trail
- Improving the Midnight Trail
Fourmile Creek: Hal will schedule a meeting with Mark Yeager to begin the process of designing and developing a trail system on the Finley property.
Other business: The Annual Meeting
There were a number of suggestions as to how to improve the annual meeting including:
- Change the date to April or May
- Include a hike on one of the trails
- Educational talks
- Highlight trail projects and improvements
- Present an annual award
- Etc.
Bring lots of ideas to the next meeting to continue the discussion.
