Board Meeting

PRESENT: Hal Halbert, president;  L. Yost, D. Baird, N. Platt, A. Kokx, S. Gnolek, R. Merrill, C. Pratt, D. Kuhn,  S. Galbraith

July minutes approved.

Motion to appoint Sheri Gnolek member-at- large passed.

Treasurer's Report: Checking $2656.69; Savings $3886.78; Petty cash $98.04; Total $6641.51. Kenlou grant $4200.

Membership: 130 memberships; one member donated $100.

Communications: Newsletter articles and pictures are due by Sept.  12 meeting.

November meeting hot dog roast, volunteer thank you event at Liberty Lodge

Rick needs favorite hikes outside Webster Trails

Trail stewards to submit photos of favorite place on their trail

Sunday Hikes: Jeff and Larry led the July hike. 4 participants .  August hike will be led by Alisa.

Discussion on how to increase participation. Sharon will call Ann Carmody to get hikes posted in the PTSA newsletter.

Habitat: met 3 times in July, working where Red Trail and Orange Trail meet at WRNP, clearing bittersweet, privet, and multiflora rose. Will begin work in the big field on woody shrubs, cutting and painting the stumps.

Vosburg Hollow kiosk has been vandalized - one side taken away. Norma and Larry will repair.
Scout/Youth Projects: UCC youth worked on Autumn Olive - area is pretty much cleared.

Still need bridges in Four Mile Creek

Jenna Bilsback wants project ideas for her senior project of 15  hours.

Board brainstormed following ideas:
replace vandalized kiosks and signs; ID signage for trees; upgrade kiosk at WNRP; facebook page; bench for Small Meadow or WNRP

Trails committee:

Bird Sanctuary kiosk needs repair

no action yet on rails on Hojack - perhaps next year; no action on bridges for Four Mile; no action  on Chiyoda culvert across Rt. 250

August work day - 25 workers on new Red Trail Loop.

Plan for September - continue on above.

Discussion of trail names. Board decided to name the new red trail loop the Green Trail.

Old/New Business: Discussion on increasing FWT membership and participation. It was decided to get names and email addresses from people at the ADK Expo and Village Days. Create a separate distribution list for events, workdays, info.  S. Gnolek will set up a linked-in group via the internet.

Trail use do's and don'ts to go on web site.

CDS wants project for its clients. Do we have suggestions. Rain Garden restoration in Vosburg Hollow. John Unger Trail trimming.
