Membership (Dennis): FWT has 134 memberships, one of which is new. Renewal notices have been sent out.
Communications
(Rick): The fall newsletter is on-line.
(Alisa for Shari): 25 members on LinkedIn
(Norma): For her senior project, Jenna Bilsback will work with board to set up a Facebook page for FWT. We will hold a meeting 10/24 to talk about setting up the page.
(Norma): the content on the kiosk at Vosburg Hollow has been replaced
Family Fun Hike: Sharon reported that no one came to the September hike. The group started discussion on whether to continue this program. We will hold the already-scheduled hikes in October November and December, and discuss further in the upcoming months.
Habitat preservation (Norma): The work on the small meadow is largely completed. It now contains a pleasing vista across the entire area. The group will continue working into the fall as weather permits.
Trails committee (Jeff Darling): At the October work party, a lot got done: removal of Autumn Olive on the Midnight Trail, installation of 2 passport posts at Gosnell, and, at WRNP, debirming Clover Hill, removing stumps (Green trail) and removing Multiflora Rose .
The kiosk at Bird Sanctuary still needs fixing. This will involve installing posts and reassembling the roof. Craig Pratt volunteered to take a look at this.
An Eagle Scout candidate Matt Miller will be working on the 1st bridge at Four Mile Creek. Alisa will be his mentor. The 4-foot wide bridge should be completed by the end of November.
Old/New business:
The open-house will be at Liberty Lodge, Nov 5th. The work party at Finn Park will be from 9-11 removing honeysuckle and improving the ‘turnpike’ on either side of the bridge. The open house will start at 11. Refreshments -- cider, donuts and apples – will be served. There will be a number of exhibits and demonstrations: maps, photos, future projects, shirts, bandanas, a slide show, whistles, volunteer recognition. Hal will be keeping track of responsibilities.
Alisa is updating the FWT brochure.
Jeff reminded us that there will be a meeting for a Webster Park Master Plan. He’ll let us know the date, when it is set. FWT should be there to have their say.
Hal received a request from a commercial firm to have FWT endorse some ‘membership benefits’. The Board voted ‘No’.
Shari Gnolek has suggested holding a ‘Midnight Hike’ on Dec. 10th, where we hike under the full moon and, afterward, drinking hot chocolate. Everyone thought this would be a good idea. Logistics and permissions need to be addressed (neighbors/police/after hours/parking lot).
The next meeting will be held November 14th at Chiyoda Drive.
