Connecting Trails Through the Town of Webster

On Thursday, January 5, 2006, the Town Board approved the purchase of more Gosnell Property and the Hale Property. This property is (in my opinion) the prime property in Webster to preserve. The area is heavily wooded with a variety of old and new growth and has many different ecosystems with the hills and streams through the area. Map. This acquision affords us the opportunity for more loop trails, but more importantly, it affords us the opportunity to build trails to connect Webster Park with the Hojack Trail at Vosburg Hollow.

Mark Yaeger, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, is currently working with the County Parks Department on plans for crossing the wet area in Webster Park. We are pursuing putting a causeway across the wet area instead of a bridge. Once that is completed, we will have a connection between all the trails in Webster Park and the Gosnell Nature Trail in the Whiting Road Nature Preserve.

Building the connecting trail from Whiting Road to Pellet Road through the Whiting Road Nature Preserve presents the largest challenge. There are 3 wet areas that must be crossed. Two of the areas can be crossed with bridges and one area will have to be crossed with a substantial 150 foot boardwalk.

Completing the trails from Webster Park to Vosburg Hollow is going to take quite a bit of time, effort and workers. We are working with local Boy Scout troops for Eagle Projects and Troop Projects for some of the boardwalks and bridges.
