And what of the name, "Hojack", when the official track name
was the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad? The story is told about
a farmer with a cart being pulled by a porky mule who got caught in the
middle of the tracks with a train approaching because his mule had simply
stopped half-way across the tracks. Naturally, the farmer was quite agitated
and frightened and started shouting at this mule, "HO-Jack, HO-Jack"
trying to get the jack ass to move. The train engineers were quite amused
by the whole incident and started to refer to their line as the Hojack. |
